Mrs. Annette Holmes

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Annette Holmes, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond, Louisiana, surrounded by the love of her family. Annette was born on May 16, 1959, in Greensburg, Louisiana, the youngest child of Reverend Moses Holmes and Mamie Holmes. From an early age, she exemplified strength, compassion, and an unwavering faith that guided her throughout her life. She received her education through the St. Helena Parish School System, graduating from Helena High School in 1977. Annette continued her studies at Southeastern Louisiana University, where she majored in criminal justice. Her work ethic and dedication were evident throughout her career, having worked at Elmer’s Candy Factory, in construction as a flag-woman, at Grand Paradise Casino as a security officer, at Hammond Strawberry Fields as a Personal Care Attendant, and later with the St. Helena Parish School System as a cook, where she eventually retired. At an early age, Annette accepted Christ and remained a faithful and active member of the AME Church throughout her life. She served with devotion as a member of the choir and the Women’s Missionary Society, always giving of herself in service to God and others. Annette was the embodiment of generosity-truly the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back without hesitation. She was kind-hearted, fearless, nurturing, and full of joy. She loved singing. traveling, reading, cooking, exploring new restaurants, supporting her community, and cherishing moments with family and friends. She found great joy in fellowship and was a proud member of The Golden Girls, a senior women’s social group formed in 2023 to uplift and support one another through laughter, love, and companionship. Above all, Annette’s greatest pride and joy were her family. Her legacy of strength, resilience, and unconditional love lives on through each life she touched. To her grandchildren, family, and friends—let her life be a reminder to walk boldly, love deeply, give freely, and trust God completely. Her spirit remains a guiding light, encouraging each of you to stand strong, remain united, and carry her love forward. Annette is lovingly remembered by her mother, Mamie Holmes; sons, Johnnie Jones, Jr. (Shan), Tony Jones, Ronald Jones (Pamela), and Joshua Jones; one brother, Melvin Holmes, Sr. (Ann); three sisters, Gloria Holmes, Diane Baker, and Martha Holmes; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend Moses Holmes; brothers, Leory Holmes and Isiah Holmes; and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Though we mourn her earthly absence, we rejoice in knowing that she is at peace. Her love, strength, and generosity will forever remain etched in our hearts. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” —Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
