Mr. George Ellis

Mr. George Ellis entered this life on February 10, 1947, in Hartsville, South Carolina, born to the late Willie Ellis and Rosa Bradford Ellis. His life would become one marked by service, hard work, entrepreneurship, and devotion to those he held dear. George was educated in Hartsville and proudly graduated with the Butler High School Class of 1965. Immediately following high school, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served honorably before receiving his honorable discharge and returning to civilian life. George's strong work ethic was evident throughout his life. He began his working career as a school bus driver, entrusted with safely transporting children within his community. As the years progressed, his ambition and entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own courier, pickup, and delivery service. George successfully operated his business for many years and continued doing so until his retirement. Throughout his life's journey, George experienced the blessings of marriage and family. He was first united in marriage to Emma McCall, and from that union came two children, Anthony Ramsey and Derrick Ellis. He later married Shirley Anthony, with whom he shared his life until her passing in 2014. In the later chapter of his life, George found companionship and love again when he married Gilda Porche. George and Gilda made their home in Amite, Louisiana, where they shared life's everyday moments and the companionship of their beloved pup-child, Sir King Ellis, who held a special place in their home and hearts. On September 8, 2026, George completed his earthly journey at the age of 79, leaving behind the memories of a life that spanned nearly eight decades. George was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Rosa Ellis; one son, Anthony Ramsey; and eleven siblings, Albert, Charles, James, David, Alfonso, Henry, Helen, Rosa Ann, Marva, Betty, and Delphine. Those who remain to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Gilda Porche Ellis of Amite, Louisiana; his son, Derrick Ellis; three grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Caldwell of Columbus, Georgia, and Ruth Sears of Hartsville, South Carolina; his brother-in-law, Oliver Ross (Valda) of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; a very good friend, Brandon Catalano of Amite, Louisiana; his and Gilda's beloved pup-child, Sir King Ellis; and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. George's story will be remembered through the lives he touched, the work of his hands, the family he loved, and the many memories created along the way. Though his earthly journey has ended, the chapters he wrote through service, perseverance, entrepreneurship, family, and friendship will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest well George, your work is complete, your journey is finished, and your memory will remain.
