Mrs. Janet Faye Taylor

“I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” Psalm 16:8 Mrs. Janet F. Taylor was born in New Orleans, LA, on November 25, 1953, to the late Florence and William Lockett Sr. She was embraced by the late Mary Butler Stewart, who taught her womanly values. Janet transitioned on September 12, 2023, at age 69. God called, and she answered. She leaves behind her smile, Motherly advice, welcoming home, and lasting memories. Sis. Janet was baptized at Greater Beulah Land Baptist Church under the leadership of the late pastor Spears in 1976. She moved to Amite, LA, where she joined Big Zion AME Church in Roseland, La. She faithfully served as a member of the Usher board until her illness. She was a dedicated member of Lucy Chapter No.4, Order of the Easter Star. Janet took each position she served seriously with enthusiasm and commitment to excellence. Janet received her formal education through the New Orleans Public School System, where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1971. Shortly after graduating, she married the late Charles J. Stewart Sr., and to their union, one son, Charles J. Stewart Jr., was born. After Charles Sr.'s passing, she remained strong and worked hard. She later met the late Ellis J. Taylor Sr, and they married on July 17, 1976; to their union, two sons, Ellis J. Taylor Jr. and Eric J. Taylor, were born. Together, they raised their three sons, showing unconditional love and affection. Janet worked as a Domestic Engineer Assistant for the Edwards family. She dedicated her loyalty and time to Mr. Frank and Dora Jean Edwards until her retirement in 2016. Janet was very active and outspoken. She loved playing cards, watching her kids and grandkids play sports, talking on the phone with many (Esp. Joyce Jackson) and her son Charles daily, gardening, and socializing. Her grandkids were essential to her, and she loved and enjoyed spending time with them, giving advice, and sharing her words of wisdom without judgment was her Gift. She touched the lives of many who called her Mother, Friend, Listener, Adviser; to some, she was all the above. To be in her presence was an experience of joy and excitement. Janet Taylor was an amazing woman who lived her life to the fullest and beyond! She left her imprint on everyone she met. She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Charles (Kioka) Stewart of New Orleans, La; Ellis J. Taylor Jr. and Eric J. Taylor, both of Amite, La; five grandchildren: Love Stewart, Braylen Taylor, Jabon Taylor, La’Zyriah Taylor, and Ethan Taylor; Charley (Suga) Morris of Roseland, LA; two sisters Peggy (Calvin) Womack of Patterson, New Jersey and Barbara Ratliff of Phenix AL; one brother William Lockett, Jr. of Dallas, TX; the daughters she never had Bridgette(Marvin) Johnson of New Orleans, La., Inez(Alonzo) Ellis of Houston, TX, Tene’ Taylor of Amite, La, and Danielle Morris of Roseland La, two wonderful ladies; Deanne (Demarquis) Bruise of Independence, LaDrea Stalls of Hammond, La; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Florence and William Lockett, Sr., and mother, Mary Butler Stewart, her husband Ellis (Billbo) J. Taylor Sr., mother-in-law Rose (Momo) Lee Taylor, and three sisters, Cynthia Taylor, Glenda Lockett, and Robin Lockett.
