Mr. Johnnie Lee Johnson Jr.

“I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” II Timothy 4:7-8 Johnnie Lee Johnson Jr. was born July 28, 1952 to the late Johnnie Lee Johnson Sr. and Vivian Galman Johnson. He was the eldest of 9 children. He was respectfully known to most as “Johnnie Boy”. Johnnie received his primary education at Big Zion Elementary School and then integrated to Westside High. He completed his secondary education at Gary Job Corps Center in San Antonio, TX. Upon completion of job corp, Johnnie met Rosa Tamez and two children were born, Johnnie Lee Tamez and Jeffery Lee Johnson. Johnnie grew up in church at Big Zion A.M.E in Roseland La. As a youth Johnnie’s favorite hobby was playing basketball. Johnnie moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1984 and soon became employed at Stringer Nursery where he worked 20 years until retirement. Johnnie met Donya Michelle Benton while living in Tulsa. The two united in holy matrimony on August 21, 1997. Johnnie dedicated his life to Christ and joined New Life Worship and Praise Center in 2016. He continued as a faithful virtual member under the spiritual guidance and leadership of his son, Pastor Johnnie L. Tamez. Johnnie Lee Johnson Jr. leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 27 years, Donya Michelle Johnson; Two sons: Johnnie L. Tamez (Deletha) of Covington, LA. and Jeffery Lee Johnson of Galveston, TX; Five grandchildren: Amber Tamez of Yukon, OK, Destiny Tamez of Dallas, TX, Alaina Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Jonathan Tamez of Tulsa, OK, and Jalen Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; Two great-grandchildren: Ace and Ayla Williams of Yukon, OK; Five god-children: Christopher Daniels of Amite, LA, Darryl Johnson, Donya Johnson, Marilyn Blevins, and “DJ” all of Tulsa, OK; Three brothers: RobertEarl Johnson (Felicia) of Amite, LA, Alvin Johnson (Linda) of Baker, LA, Ricky Johnson of Roseland, LA; Four sisters: Joyce Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Rose Burton and Maria Taylor of Roseland, LA, Syconda Washington (Terry) of Amite, LA: and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Lee Johnson Sr and Vivian Galman Johnson; One brother, Melvin Hookfin; One sister, Glenda Jones; Paternal grandmother, Cora Johnson; Maternal grandmother, Idella G. White.
